Henry Lacy was the son of Thomas Lacy and Margaret St Lo.[1] He was born by 1491.[2]
He married Katherine Powdige or Powdich[1] by 1527.[2] They had foursomes and two daughters:
Henry must have had a somewhat profligate youth. His father's will bequeathed his lands to Henry's mother, with reversion to Henry on her death provided that he had repented of his wanton and unfilial conduct.[4]
Henry clearly did change his ways, for he became a leading personage of Stamford, Lincolnshire. In 1512 he was a member of the Second twelve of the Borough; from 1513 until his death he was one of the First Twelve, the governing body of the town.[1][2] For much of his adult life he was Deputy Steward of the manor of Stamford.[2] He was a Stamford Alderman in 1521/2, 1531/2 and 1539/40.[1]
He held lands in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. In 1532 he acquired a 52-year lease of Lincolnshire lands and buildings that had belongs to the convent of Stamford.[1] In 1547 Henry and his brother Edward sold their property at Grantchester, Cambridgeshire.[1][4]
He represented Stamford in Parliament three times, in 1536, 1542 and 1545.[1][2]
Henry died in 1564: his will, dated 1 May 1564, was proved on 30 January 1564/5.[1][2] He left property in Stamford, Lincolnshire and elsewhere. His main heir was his son Thomas, with a condition that Thomas provide for Henry's grandson Bennet, son of Robert, to be educated at Cambridge.[2] Robert had presumably died by then.
