Biography
François Alexis Lafond was baptized on 4 Jan 1725 at Batiscan in Nouvelle-France. He was the son of Jean Lafond dit Mongrain and Françoise Rivard dite Lorangé. [1][2]
- This family represents a "text-book" (and now G2G) example of the varying uses of original family names and dit names. What was originally De Lafond - as in the case of grandfather Pierre De Lafond, was often written by her father with the dit name of Mongrain added - and the two names were then used variously (for different children and events) and in both "orders" together - so, for example, Lafond Mongrain or Mongrain de Lafond. - In the case of François Alexis, only the original family name of Lafond was used on his baptismal record.[1]
