Biography

John, also known as Jack, was born in 1873 in Morris township of Huron County, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of John Laidlaw and Agnes Waldie. [1]

Note that John also had a cousin John Laidlaw who was a little younger (b. circa 1875), son of Robert Laidlaw, also of Morris township.
In 1881, John, age 8, was living in Morris township of Huron County, Ontario with his parents, John and Agnes (sp. Agnus) and siblings. [2]

On 2 October 1901, John Edward Blake Laidlaw was married to Helen Dora Webb, daughter of Joseph William Webb and Frances Jane Tabb, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. [3][4]

John's death was recorded in Coquitlam, British Columbia in October of 1939. [5]

John Edward Blake Laidlaw is buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, together with his wife Helen Dora Webb. [6]

Research Notes

According to the Scottish naming custom, John, as the third son, was named after his father John Scott Laidlaw. John Scott, being a very politically minded sort, also gave his son the name of Edward Blake who had been elected to the Ontario Legislature and the House of Commons in 1867. Edward Blake was Prime Minister (now called Premier) of Ontario in 1871-72 and Minister of Justice for Canada in 1875-77 as a representative of the Reform (Liberal) Party in Canada. [7]
