Biography

Ray was born in Hardin county, Iowa on 1 December 1900. He was the son of "Neal" Cornelius Brown Lake (1869-1913) and Amanda Frederick (1875-1954). His mother had lost a baby in 1897. It is not known what his middle initial "C" stands for, but it is reasonable that it is father's name "Cornelius." This family of three was living in Hardin township of Hardin county, Iowa in 1910.^[1]

His father, Neal, died in 1913 of hypothermia and blood loss after an accident left him injured and unconscious overnight in temperatures below zero.^[2] His mother, Amanda, married Charles Francis Wilbur on 23 February 1919 in Iowa Falls. Charles then died on 23 December 1919.

Ray married Cleone Mildred Spoor on 24 June 1924 in Cherokee county, Iowa.^[3] They farmed near Iowa Falls and had no children. They were living in Hardin township, Hardin county, Iowa in 1930^[4] and also in 1940.^[5]

He passed away in November of 1968.^[6] His burial was in Cottage Cemetery where many of his family had been laid to rest. His grandparents had been members of the cemetery board for many years.^[7]
