Research

The book shown as source for John Lake, (see under Source) the son of John Lake b. 1688 and his wife Martinah, b. 1690, died in 1751. He could not have been married to Nelly Claessen Lake who was born in 1688. Detaching Nelly from the son's profile 28 August 2020.

There are two John Lakes, father and son, one d 1751 who m, Sarah, other 1754 who m. Martinah both left wills naming their wife. The abstract of each is on same page of New Jersey, Abstract of Wills, 1670-1817 Volume XXXII, Abstracts of Wills, 1751-1760

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

I'm also researching the Lake family, my direct ancestors, and have a PDF of the Adams, Arthur and Risley, Sarah. "A Genealogy of the Lake Family. "

The following shows that John Lake b. 1712 predeceased his father, John Lake, so his date of death would be before 1753/54

John Lake baptised April 16, 1688; will is dated February 20, 1752 and proved May 6, 1754. Also he mentions wife Martinah, his son Richard, son John, deceased, who left a daughter Hannah, and daughters Nailee, Hannah, and Sarah. The executors named are the son Richard and Daniel Bayley, Jr. Page 10

Based upon dates of birth of Johanna Lake (1714) and John Lake (1712) (Lake-516), there is no way humanly possible that Lake-516 could be the father of Johanna. Most genealogists (and I believe they are correct) on multiple genealogical sites list her parents as Lake-515 and Wilkins-656, her grandparents as Lake-422 and Klaas-21. A will signed by John Lake of New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., lists John's wife as Martinah, children Richard, Nailee, Hannah (Johannah), and Sarah. Son John was already deceased. https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/2793/32669_236600-00194/22525?backurl=https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/164419278/person/142173283688/facts/citation/582242296177/edit/record and https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=4723&h=27744&ssrc=pt&tid=164419278&pid=142173283688&usePUB=true
This is my son-in-law's family, and I know very little about them. I adopted a profile created by others. Please feel free to connect/disconnect and merge profiles if you have better information. The bio says that his birth date is estimated by the birth dates of his siblings, but he currently has no siblings. When the profile was created, his birth year was 1690--also not possible if his father was born in 1688. Has he been confused with his grandfather John Lake-422 (1654-729) was was married to Neeltje Klaas-21 (1655-1739)? If it makes sense that his daughter, Johanna Lake-175 (Bayless) is the daughter of John Lake-515 and Martinah Wilkins-656, go ahead and attach her to them. Then maybe this profile should be merged with Lake-422 and his wife merged with Klaas-21.

Thank you, Kay! I did assign her parents as Lake-515 and Wilkins-656 and appreciate VERY much your kindness and understanding. There is a son of Lake 515 and Wilkins-656 named John, b. 1718, d. 24 SEP 1751. He was married to Sarah. His will can be found directly above his father's in the Calendar of Wills referenced by me above. That John is Hannah, Richard, Nailee and Sarah Lake's brother. Hannah's husband, Daniel Bayless (Bayleys) was one of the executors of the will. Thanks again! Patty
parents of Johanna Lake: sources indicate that her parents were John Lake born about 1688 and Martina (unk) born about 1690 and her grandparents were John Lake born about 1655 and Nellie Claessen born about 1655.

Thank you for that information. I think you're referring to Klaas-21, John's grandmother. What are the "sources" that indicate that?
