Biography

Josiah J. Lakin was born on January 21, 1852 in Princeton, Bureau, Illinois He is the son of Henry Lakin and Mary Jane Goodge Rodwell. [1] [2] [3]

The 1860 Federal Census listed Josiah as living with his parents Henry and Mary, his brothers Lemuel and Lovell Henry, his sister Sybil E., his step-sister Mary Jane Rodwell and his step-brothers John A. and Thomas Rodwell in Westfield Township, Bureau, Illinois. [4]

The 1870 Federal Census listed Josiah as living with his parents Henry and Mary, his brothers Lemuel, Lovell Henry, Franklin Elsnorth and Lyman and his sister Sybil E. in Westfield Township, Bureau, Illinois. [5]

Josiah J. Lakin married first Phoebe Elvira Clapper on April 23, 1873 in Coffee County, Kansas by the Rev. T. J. Plowman. [6]

The 1880 Federal Census listed Josiah as living with his wife Phoebe, his sons Lyman and Cyrus Earl and his daughter Nena in Neosho Falls, Woodson, Kansas. His occupation was listed as farmer. [7]

The 1900 Federal Census listed Josiah as living with his wife Phoebe, his sons Lyman and Cyrus Earl and his daughters Nena and Myrtle in Neosho Township, Newton, Missouri. His occupation was listed as farmer. [8]

The 1910 Federal Census listed Josiah as living with his wife Phoebe and his daughter Myrtle on Pineville Road in Neosho Township, Newton, Missouri. His occupation was listed as farmer. [9]

The marriage ended when Josiah's wife Phoebe passed away on August 16, 1912.

Josiah J. Lakin married second Sarah J. Bullard on January 25, 1913 in Neosho, Newton, Missouri. [10] This marriage did not last long.

Josiah J. Lakin married third Eliza Jane Buxton Moore on November 2, 1913 in Neosho, Newton, Missouri. [11]

The 1920 Federal Census listed Josiah as living with his wife Eliza in Neosho Township, Newton, Missouri. His occupation was listed as farmer. [12]

The marriage ended when Josiah's wife Eliza passed away on July 12, 1923.

Josiah passed away on February 13, 1932 in Neosho Township, Newton Missouri at age 79. He was buried in the International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Neosho, Newton, Missouri. [15] (Note: Josiah's last name was misspelled on the gravestone "Lakain.")
