Biography

He was the son of Armand Lalonde and Edna Ouellette. He passed away in 2010.

LALONDE Joseph Armand 85 yrs. Peacefully on June 11, 2010 while surrounded by his wife of 59 years, Pauline (nee Sylvestre) and his children, Rose Lalonde, Charles Lalonde and wife Amber Walpole, Claire Devantier and husband Leif, Marie Alexander and husband Dennis, Marc Lalonde and wife Kristine Krebs, and Lisanne Lalonde. He will be dearly missed by his brothers and sisters Veronica (deceased 1954), Robert (deceased 1976), Yvonne Chauvin and husband Jerome, Claudette Pignal and husband Marcel, and Edward Lalonde and wife Myra as well as by his 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and all of his nieces and nephews.

Joseph was born to Armand and Edna Lalonde in July of 1924 in East Windsor where he lived until the age of eight when the family moved to Belle River. In August of 1943 Joe enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served his country with honour until he was released in 1946. Beginning in 1951, Joe served the community of Belle River as the town's Post Master for 36 years until his retirement in February of 1987. He continued his activity in the community as a life-long parishioner of St. Simon and St. Jude parish in Belle River, by involving himself with the Meals on Wheels program, the Good Fellows Club of Belle River and as a member of the Franco-Ontarian social club "Club Richelieu" and the Canada Post Heritage Club. Joe and Pauline enjoyed many trips abroad having travelled throughout the world including the Holy Land, Australia and the South Pacific, Europe, North Africa, Russia, the Far East and parts of the Caribbean and Central America. Joe was an avid gardener who, for many years, enjoyed working in his yard and tending to his flowers and shrubs and trees. There is little doubt in the minds of his family that Joe is now looking down upon us with a sly grin, a twinkling eye and a glass of his favorite red wine in hand. He will be missed.

For those who wish to share fond memories of Joseph, he will be resting at Melady Funeral Home, 572 Notre Dame, Belle River, (519) 728-1500 On Sunday, June 13, from 7-9 p.m. and Monday June 14 from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 3:00 p.m. Funeral procession leaves Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 10 a.m. to St. Simon & St. Jude Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow with entombment of ashes at a later date.
