Robert was the eldest of nine children, all of whom lived to adulthood. Their father had property in Calvert and Prince George counties in Maryland, and Robert added holdings in Frederick and Montgomery counties as well.
Robert married Sarah Young, and they had:
By 1755 after their father died, Robert and his brothers, for one reason or another, sold their land in Maryland and moved to South Carolina, taking their mother with them.
Robert did not live long after that. In 1756, his widow applied for land grants for herself and at least two of their sons. South Carolina land plats for the years 1756 to 1790 show the following grants to this family. No Robert is mentioned, neither this man nor his son, among the grantees; but we know that Robert and Sarah's son, Robert, lived among the others in the Edgefield District, or, more specifically in some accounts, the 96 District.
Most of their acreage lay in the Savannah River region in what was to become the 96 District of Edgefield County, and Orangeburg District.
