Biography

William was born in 1920, a son of William Dougan Lamar and Blanche Elona Robbins.[1][2][3] He died in 2011 and is buried in Sawyersville Wesleyan Church Cemetery, Asheboro, North Carolina.[4][5]

He is listed in the 1930 US Census as a boy living with his parents and two younger siblings, in Asheboro, North Carolina:[6]

He married Edna Frances (Sloan) Chandler on 21 Oct 1939 in Danville, Virginia; this was her second marriage.[7] They lived in Asheboro, North Carolina[8] and had four children together. He remarried when she died in 1993.

He is listed in the 1940 US Census as still in his parent's house in Asheboro, North Carolina, with three other siblings:[9]

He served as a Private in the Us Army during WWII. His exact assignments are not currently known. He enlisted on 13 Oct 1944 at Camp Croft, South Carolina.[10]

His obituary:

Mr. William "Bill" Allen Lamar, 91, of Asheboro, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at Randolph Hospice House.
A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church with Dr. Ron Hamilton and Rev. Jeff Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
A native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Lamar was born July 25, 1920. He was the son of the late William Dougan Lamar and Blanche Robbins Lamar. He retired from Union Carbide and was a member of Rushwood Wesleyan Church. Mr. Lamar served in the US Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Sloan Lamar; grandson, Jerry Wayne Lamar; sister, Thelma Lamar Trotter; and brothers, Charles Grayson Lamar and Leon Lamar.
Mr. Lamar is survived by his wife, Agnes Lamar; daughter, Elaine Freeman and husband, Harold of Asheboro, NC; sons, Gary Lamar and wife, Judy of Asheboro, NC, Darrell Lamar and wife, Carolyn of Asheboro, NC, Charles Lamar, of Asheboro, NC; sister, Betty Hinshaw, of Asheboro, NC; 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Randolph, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.
