Biography

Zerviah was born in 1804, in Brattleboro, Vermont. She was the daughter of Enos Lamb (1774-abt.1858) and Anna (Blackmar) Lamb (1775-1850).

Zerviah married widower Prescott Sawyer (abt.1794-abt.1876) 9 February 1822, in Manchester, Ontario, New York. From pension paperwork, Prescott and Zerviah lived in Ontario County, New York from 1822 to 1830, Cuyahoga County, Ohio from 1830-1836, Williams County, Ohio from 1836-1844, Green County, Wisconsin from 1844-1846., Dane County from 1846 to 1871, and in the village of Lodi, Columbia, Wisconsin from 1871-1876.

Prescott was awarded a bounty land grant of 80 acres on 1 August 1844, in Williams County, Ohio.[1]

In 1850, the family is living in Windsor, Dane, Wisconsin. Prescott is a farmer. [2]

Zerviah's husband Prescott died on 1 December 1876. Zervia applied for a widow's pension, which began on 9 Mar 1878.[4]

Zerviah died at age 75 on 29 January 1880, in Lodi, Wisconson. She is buried in Token Creek Cemetery in Token Creek, Dane County, Wisconsin.[5]

DIED Sawyer - in Lodi, Wis., at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. L.P. Hindes, on the evening of January 29th, 1880, Mrs. Zeruia Sawyer, in the 76th year of her age. After an illness of seven weeks, accompanied with great suffering, she fell asleep with a great smile. She leaves three sons and five daughters to mourn her loss. Funeral at the residence of Mr. Hindes at nine o'clock tomorrow morning (Sunday) whence the remains will be taken to Token Creek and laid beside her husband and father.'"
