Biography

Thomas Lamb was the only son of Thomas and Martha lamb (1800 – 1869) of Little Newcastle Pembrokeshire. Thomas Jnr was born in 1841 in Fishguard North Pembrokeshire. Thomas Jnr started his early life as a farmer then taking up the call of god. And in later life would be a Calvinist Methodist Preacher. We can find Thomas on the 1851 census for Fishguard, living at the family home in West Street. He is aged 10. He just missed out on the 1841 census, by being born after that was taken. The 186 census has the family living at Windy Hill Goodwick Bridge Fishguard. Thomas is now aged 19 and still living at home with his parents. In 1868 Thomas married Anne Jane Price (b 1847) who was the daughter of Thomas and Jane Price master mariner from Dinas, near Fishguard. The 1871 census has Thomas and Anne living at Windy Hill Fishguard. It is possibly the same address as that of 1861, but with a different version of the address. Places in those days often had variations in the spelling, or simply a different name for the same place. With them at the family home is Thomas’s widowed mother Martha, and two of Thomas and Anna’s children. These are Thomas Price Lamb born 1869 and sadly died in 1871. The other child is their first daughter Martha A born 1870. Again in 1871 the family are still at Windy Hill. Thomas has two occupations, a farmer and Methodist preacher. The family has grown by four children. These are Harrietta J (b 1873) Gwilliam P (b 1875) John P (b 1878) and Anna M (b 1880). By 1891 the family have moved to Nevern in Cardiganshire, how Pembrokeshire. With them at the address are yet more squeaky clean children. These are 2nd Thomas P (b 1883) Mary Gwendoline (b 1885) David G (b1888) and Ada Myfanwy (b 1890). The 1901 census the family are still living at Nevern. Along with six of their children, there is a niece of Thomas and Anna. She is Sarah A Davies aged two (b 1889) at Nevern. By 1911 Thomas is a widower and living with five of his children at Newport Pembs. In addition to the five children is Sara Ann Lamb. She is now classed as a granddaughter. As yet I have not been able to establish her true relationship to Thomas. But as many things with this family they need to be investigated in more detail. As yet the 1921 census is not available to the public yet (at time of publication) But we next find Thomas in 1928 when he died and is buried. As yet the address at which he met his demise has not been unearthed yet. But four of Thomas’s children (David, John, Anna. Plus Sarah) lived in Tredressiefach, whilst two more (Jane and Gwilliam) lived at Penlan not too far from Nevern
