Beverly Lamb was born in the 1960s in Henry County, IN. She is the oldest of three children. The family moved around the state extensively, and she lived in 21 different homes before the age of 18. She went to 14 different schools. Her father left the family when she was 8 years old, and her parents divorced when she was 10.

She graduated from Indiana University in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in personnel management and labor relations. After that, she moved to Stanford, CT, to live with a college roommate. She eventually met and married John Piccirillo. The marriage lasted five years.

She then moved to California with a car full of cats, clothing, and a computer. She worked for a time as a technical programmer, trainer, and consultant before going back to school to earn a master's degree in counseling psychology with a specialization in somatic psychology. She has been self-employed as a therapist and life coach since 2009, and recently completed a doctoral degree in mind-body medicine with a specialization in integrative mental health.
