John was born around 1822 in Faxfleet, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of William and Mary.[1]

In 1848 he married Hannah Best;[2][3] the family lived in Balkholme, Yorkshire, in 1851[4] and 1861. John was a farmer of 80 acres.[5][6]

Hannah died in 1876[7] and by 1881 the family had moved to Wallingfen, Yorkshire.[8]

John died in 1889 at the age of 67[9] and was buried in North Cave, Yorkshire.[10]
