Obituary

Funeral service for Edward "Ed" P. Lambert, 87, Aberdeen will be 10:00 am, Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Pastor Chris Anderson officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Prairie Hill Cemetery near Bradley, SD. Ed died on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be from 1:00-7:00 pm, with family present from 5:00- 7:00 pm, Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main Street, Aberdeen.

Edward P. Lambert, son of Philip and Mae (Abeli) Lambert was born on February 6, 1924 in Clark County, SD. He attended country school and later Bradley High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on April 25, 1944. Ed received his honorable discharge on May 5, 1946. He returned home to South Dakota and worked as a farm hand in the Bradley area.

He was united in marriage to Luella Luvaas on April 10, 1949 at Our Savior Lutheran Church near Lily, SD. He worked for a short time at Thorpe School as a custodian. They moved to Minneapolis and later returned to Bradley prior to making their home in Aberdeen in 1953.

Ed was employed at Armour and Company Meat Packers until 1965 when the company closed. He worked at Montgomery Ward and Company for a short time prior to starting his employment with Hub City Iron. This is where Ed remained until his retirement on April 7, 1989.

Ed was active for many years in the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the 40 & 8. He held every office on the local level for the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24 as well as every office for the local 40 & 8 organization. He also held various offices at the state level for the American Legion and the 40 & 8.

During his retirement, Ed enjoyed traveling with his wife. They went on several bus tours and enjoyed vacations to Europe and the Caribbean Islands. He enjoyed gardening and was also an avid race fan.

Grateful for having shared Ed's life are his wife Luella of Aberdeen, two sons, Norman Lambert, Savage, MN and Larry (Julie) Lambert, Aberdeen; one daughter, Linda (Donald) Woodward, Aberdeen; 5 grandchildren, Justin (Sarah) Lambert, Aaron (Kristin) Lambert, Tyler Lambert, Brad Lambert and Kelli (Ryan) Haessig and one great granddaughter Addison Lambert.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Philip and Mae Lambert and two brothers Donald and Leonard Lambert. [1]
