Philip came from Essex, England to VA on the RUBY to serve a convict's indenture. "Philip Lambert of Laindon Hills sentenced to transport at Quarter Sessions, July 1754" [2] [3]

"Philip was transported to the Colonies c. 1754, after he and his brothers, Jeremiah and William (all of Laindon Hills, Essex, England) had been arrested and convicted of stealing a few articles of clothing. It is not known for sure where they were landed but con census has them disembarking on the coast of VA. Nor is it known where they served their 7-year sentence". [3]

Philip may have worked as an indentured servant for 7 years [on a tobacco plantation?], until about 1761. He is on the Fincastle County, VA Militia Tax rolls for 1769, 1770 and 1771. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Philip by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Philip:

Kevin Beavers,

Your narrative above includes the statement:

"He served in Fincastle [Montgomery Co.] Militia and at least once he apparently conferred or conspired with the Tories because he had to pledge his allegiance to America a second time [when?]"

I think the answer might be in Montgomery Co. court records, 4 Aug 1779 published in Annals of southwest Virginia, 1769-1800, V.1 PT.1.; see: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uva.x000213451&view=1up&seq=776

"John Henderson [a relation of Philip's wife, perhaps?] and Philip Lambert who entered into Recognizance to appear here at Court, appeared accordingly, whereupon witnesses being Sworn and examined and parties heard in their defense the Court were of the opinion that they be bound to their good Behavior for Twelve months and a day themselves in the sum of one hundred pounds each and two securities in the sum of fifty each, Whereupon the sd [said] John Henderson and Philip Lambert acknowledged themselves Indebted to the Commonwealth in the sum of one hundred pounds each and Samuel Newberry and Henry Bagley their Security in the sum of fifty pounds each to be levied of their specific lands and chattels and to the sd Commonwealth rendered Yet upon the Condition that the sd John Henderson and Philip Lambert shall be of good behaviour for the sd term of Twelve months and a day as aforesaid &c."

The text is vague about just exactly what it is that they did that had the court request "good behavior" and such a high sum of money. And I'm not sure what role Newberry and Bagley played in all this and why they appear to be involved (do you understand the court language?). But scroll down three paragraphs and you'll find reference to another group of people (including the Sizemores that I'm researching) who were "engaged in the late Insurrection..." That group had to "take the State oath" and "find bond and good Security for their Good Behaviour" for the same length of time as Philip Lambert above.

Philip Lambert came to my attention because I got curious about the relationships the Sizemores had with others, including the Bagleys, so I saw "Philip Lambert" in the same paragraph as Henry Bagley and thought I'd look him up here on Wikitree, and then found that question of yours above in Philip's narrative!

I hope this is helpful, and if you could help me interpret why/how Henry Begley is involved, I'd be grateful.
