John Riley (Ri) was a school teacher; he was listed as the highest paid teacher at one time ( around .65 per day) in Delaware County. He later became the cashier of the Farmers State Bank in Eaton, IN. His brother in law, Henry Smith, was a founder and director of this bank.
John Riley Lambert was a good friend of James Whitcomb Riley; they visited one another. Although they had a common Riley name, no blood relationship was known to the Lambert descendants. [1]
In 1850 and 1860 Census John Riley (Ri) lived with his parents in Union Twp. Delaware County, Indiana. [2][3]
He and Mary Smith Daughter were married 29 Sep 1867. [4] By 1870 they had two children. The next Census living in the same area their family had increased to 3 children. [5]
20 years latter, 1900 living still in Union Twp., their son Jessie had moved back in with them. [6]17 April 1904 Ri died. [7]
At that time mary applied to recieve Ri's pension from the civil war. [8]
