On May 5, 1774, Samuel Ashworth of Charlotte County borrowed 25 pounds from John Hight. In this same document, he sells two enslaved girls for 5 shillings, Letty (about 12 years of age) and Judy (about 9 years of age) in what appears to be surety for the debt.
