Biography

No record of his birth or baptism can be found on Scotland's People, but his siblings were born in the Muckairn area of Argyll.

In the 1841 census John (age 9) was in Balindore, Muckairn, Argyllshire, Scotland.^[1]

John drops off the family census in 1851, but he was of an age to have left home by then.

A John Lamont, born about 1830, was in a military record in United Kingdom, showing Merchant Navy service between 1845-1854.^[2] Another shows a John Lamont, born about 1831, in Merchant Navy service, same time frame. ^[3]

John's marriage to Catherine Campbell was registered in 1857 in the High Church district of Glasgow. The record shows his parents as Duncan Lamond and Mary Sinclair. John worked as a Carter, and his age shows as 26 as of marriage date of July 3rd.^[4]

In the 1871 census John (age 39), wine merchants vanman, was the married head of household at 82, West Regent Street, Barony, Blythswood, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^[5]

John's death (age 42) was registered in 1874 in the Blythswood district. His parents and wife are shown. His son Duncan was the witness to his death. He died of apoplexy.^[6]
