Biography

William was a Friend (Quaker)

William was born into a Quaker family on 13 Jan 1853[1] at New Farmington, Indiana the son of William and Olive (Ruddick) Lancaster. In 1856, the family moved to Marshall County, Iowa where they were members of the Driftwood Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends.[1][2][3] William would live and farm on the farm his father purchased in 1856 for $5 an acre his entire life.[4][5][6][7][8]

William married Olive Emily Sawin on 22 Jan 1882[9] and with her raised five children.

He passed away at his farm in Liscomb Township on 26 Jan 1936 and was the eldest resident of the Stanford settlement three miles west of Carroll, Iowa.[10][2] He is interred at the Bangor Friends Cemetery, Bangor, Iowa.[11]
