Biography

Birth and Baptism

Thomas, the son of Robert Lancaster and his wife Mary, née Monks, who had been married at South Somercotes on 30 June 1803^[1] was born at South Somercotes in 1805 and baptized at the parish church of St Mary at South Somercotes on 10 March 1805.^[2]

Marriage

Thomas, a bachelor, married Sarah Fenwick by banns at the parish church of St James at Louth on 13 October 1828. Witnesses were Zaccheus Atkin and Elias Fields.^[3]

Children

Thomas and Sarah had ten children:

1. Lucy, born at Louth in 1830 and baptized at the parish church of St James at Louth on 15 July 1830. Thomas' occupation was given as Shoemaker. Lucy died, aged 2, at Louth and was buried at the parish church of St James at Louth on 19 March 1833.^[4]
2. Maria, born at Louth in 1831 and baptized at the parish church of St James at Louth on 28 December 1831. Thomas' occupation was given as Shoemaker.^[5]
3. John, born at Louth in 1833 and baptized at the parish church of St James at Louth on 16 June 1833. Thomas' occupation was given as Shoemaker.^[6]
4. Lucy, born at Louth in 1835 and baptized at the parish church of St James at Louth on 5 April 1835. Thomas' occupation was given as Shoemaker.^[7]

• The 6 June 1841 census lists Thomas living at Northgate, Louth, with his wife Sarah, and children Maria, John, Lucy, Harriet, and Thomas. Also with them is Thomas' younger, unmarried sister Helen. Thomas' age is given as 30 and his occupation as Shoemaker.^[19]
• The 30 March 1851 census records Thomas still living at Northgate, Louth. He is with his wife Sarah, and children John, Thomas, Susanna, William, Mary Ann (who is listed as Margaret), and Charles. Thomas is described as a Cordwainer, aged 44, born at South Somercotes.^[20]
• The 7 April 1861 census lists Thomas living at 3 Northgate Yard, Louth with his wife Sarah and children Thomas, William, and Charles. Thomas is described as a Shoemaker, aged 50, born at South Somercotes.^[21]
• The 2 April 1871 census records Thomas living at 3 Lancaster Yard with his wife Sarah, and a 12 year old niece Harriet. Thomas is described as a 57 year old Shoe Maker born at South Somercotes.^[22]
• The 3 April 1881 census records Thomas, now a widower, living at Pack House Yard, Louth. Maria Turner is his servant housekeeper. Thomas is described as a 65 year old Shoemaker born at South Somercotes.^[23]

Wife's Death and Burial

Thomas' wife Sarah died at Louth on 25 February 1875^[24][25] and was buried at Louth on 2 March 1875. Sarah's age was given as 67.^[26]

Thomas died at Louth on 11 May 1886^[27][28] and was buried at Louth on 14 May 1886. Thomas' age was given as 80.^[29]
