Edward Lance is an Anzac who served in World War One.
Working for the Public Works Department on roads and tunnels around Whangamomona, Taranaki N.Z. when he enlisted.
Trooper; Lance Edward James 11/828a 2nd Squadron, Wellington Mounted Rifles (his next-of-kin was Albert Lance of Lismore, N.S.W.)
The main body of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force disembarked at Alexandria in Egypt and went by train with their horses to Zeitoun, near Cairo. On the 2nd May 1915, Edward was "appointed cook to Base Details," the headquarters staff at Zeitoun Camp in Egypt. [1]
Killed in action at Anzac Cove during the Battle of Hill 60, the last major assault of the Gallipoli Campaign in an effort to capture the hills which dominated Anzac Cove and the Suvla Bay.
The casualty department at Victoria Barracks is inquiring for the whereabouts of the relatives of Edward James Lance, reported killed in action. The New Zealand Defence Department, in cabling the news of Lance's death, gives "Albert Lance, Lismore," as a brother.
