Biography

Silas was born in Fort Branch, Gibson, Indiana, United States on August 6, 1860.[1][2][3]

On October 10, 1885, Silas married Emma McElroy in Fort Scott, Bourbon, Kansas.[4]

In August, 1886, Silas and Emma had their child, William McElroy Land, Sr. in Bourbon County, Kansas, where Emma's family lived.[5]

In 1896, Silas and his partner were seen as the largest real estate firm in Eastern Kansas, and were arrested, jailed and charged with a real estate crime. [6] The case was subsequently discharged. [7]

Sam Land was a Kansas State Senate candidate.

In July, 1898 (when he was 38 years old) Silas's first candidacy as a Republican for Kansas Legislature, representing the 21st District, did not succeed, as another candidate was chosen by the convention.[8]

In 1900, Silas was listed as a realtor in Fort Scott, Bourbon, Kansas, where he had settled with his family.[5]

In 1901, Silas accused his previous political opponent, Mr. Caldwell, of fraud and challenged the election results that lost him the nomination. [9]

In 1904, Silas made his second run as a Republican for the Kansas state congress on the Republican ticket. [10]

In 1915, Silas purchased the Fort Scott Republican newspaper. [11]

He passed away on February 20, 1935 in Bourbon County, Kansas, United States. [3]
