Thomas was born in 1879[1] in Hull, Yorkshire, England, where he lived with his family at 11 Mason Street in 1881.[2] They had moved to 5 Princess Street by 1891.[3]
At the time of the 1901 census, Thomas boarded at 3 Eastfield Avenue, Middleton Street, and worked as a provision warehouseman.[4]
In 1905 Thomas married Eva LYONS.[5] The couple lived with Eva's family at 124 Londesborough Street in 1911.[6]
