Biography

HYACINTHE LANDRY is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 4 Left. Listed with him is his wife, Marguerite Landry, daughter of Rene Landry and Marie Marguerite Theriot. ^[1]

Hyacinthe Landry, son of Jean Baptiste Landry and Anne Babin, was born about 1743 in Sainte- Famille, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia.

His known siblings were:

5. Marie Perpetue (Landry) Braud (~1754 - 1807)

During the great upheaval of Acadians from Nova Scotia (1755-1758), he and his family were shipped away to the British colony of Maryland in 1755, and detained there until the end of the war in 1763.^[2]

Hyacinthe married Marguerite Landry on 27 July 1790 in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, but they were counted together on the 7 July 1763 census of Acadian exiles taken at Oxford, Talbot, Maryland Colony.^[2]

In 1767 he and Marguerite were on the Spanish census of New Orleans (he was 25, she was 26); no children included in their entry.^[3] In August 1767, they were settled on their land at St. Gabriel, Louisiana.^[4]

He was about 49 when he died in December 1792; he was buried at St. Gabriel Catholic Church Cemetery on 19 December 1792.^[5]
