Biography

Leavitt was born in 1767, and was baptised on 7 November 1767, in Hingham, Massachusetts. He is the son of Elisha Lane and Rebecca Gill. [1][2]

On 15 December 1800, Leavitt married Sarah (Leavitt) Lane (1772-1832) in Hingham, Massachusetts.[3][2]

The couple had four children:[2]

  1. Sally, b. 13 Jun 1804, m. Martin Sprague as third wife
  2. Leavitt, b. 21 Jun 1806
  3. Hannah, b. 3 Jan 1809, m. Martin Sprague as second wife
  4. Joshua Leavitt, b. 1812

Leavitt's wife Sally died in 1832. Leavitt, a cooper aged 69, died on 30 Jun 1836, in Hingham, Massachusetts.[4][2] Leavitt is buried in the Hingham Center Cemetery in Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.[5]
