Biography

James Fleming Lane was born February 21, 1855 in Montgomery, Ohio. He died March 6, 1923 in Coletown, Darke, Ohio at age 68.

Son of Benjamin L. Dubois Lane (1823–1865) and Sarah Jane Vanderveer (1828–1910).

1860 United States Census, Greenville Township, Darke, Ohio: Benjamin L. Lane is head of household, a farmer age 36, with wife Sarah Lane age 32, and children Eleanor R. Lane age 8, James F. Lane age 5, Gilbert Lane age 3, and Margaret A. Lane age 4 months. Also in the home is Tunis W. Throp age 18.

James Fleming Lane married Mary Elizabeth Sink on November 5, 1881 in Darke, Ohio.

Children:

  1. Rosco Lane (1882–Deceased).
  2. Charles Lane (1885–Deceased).
  3. Glendoe Lane (1887–1979).
  4. Madelia Mae Lane (1889–1964).

1900 United States Census, German Township, Darke, Ohio: James Lane is head of household, a blacksmith age 45, with wife Mary E. Lane age 40, and children Rosco age 18, Charles age 15, Glendo age 13, and May D. age 11.

1910 United States Census, German Township, Darke, Ohio: James F. Lane is head of household, a blacksmith in own shop age 55, with wife Elizabeth Lane age 50, and children Charlie, a farm laborer age 24, Glenn, a blacksmith in own shop age 22, and Mae, a public school teacher age 20.

Obituary

Greenville Daily News (Greenville, Ohio) March 7, 1923:

James Fleming Lane, aged 68 years, well known resident of Darke County, died suddenly at his home in Coletown, Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Lane was a retired blacksmith having operated a shop at Nashville, west of the city, until eight years ago. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Deo Teaford; three sons, Charles, Roscoe and Glen Lane; nine grandchildren; one brother; three sisters and may friends.
