John Lane married 2) Mary Canfield-Camp-Lane 4 April 1662 in Milford, New Haven, CT. John Lane was Mary Canfield's 2nd husband. Her 1st husband was Edward Camp (1617-1659). The marriage record of John and Mary names her Camp, and gives an additional person involved with the marriage as Treat, the magistrate who married them. In her will of 1680, Mary mentions Thomas Canfield as her brother, which gives us her last name. John Lane widower m. widow Camp of Chestnut Hill New Haven 4 April 1662. Mary and Edward married in 1643 and had three children: 1) Lieut. Samuel Camp (1644-1735); 2) Mercy Camp-Baldwin-Briscoe (1646-1702); and 3) Sgt. Edward Camp Jr. (1650-1721).

John Lane is recorded as one of 44 church members who were granted a franchise as "free planters" in the new colony of Milford on Nov 20 1639. Church basically dominated all of life. They acknowledged no greater authority than the Word of God. If you weren't a church member, you couldn't be a leader in civil affairs.

John Lane's house is included on a detailed map of Milford in 1646. It sits on lot 18, across from the Episcopal church. He owned just over 2 acres of land, about average for the area.

Lane-298 and Lane-5741 appear to represent the same person because: Lane-298 contains only the death information and nothing else. Lane-5741 contains the death information as well as the relationships.

This John Lane cannot be son of Thomas Lane of Bentley and Alice Anne Bagot. Their son John is well known and did not go to the US. These parents have therefore been delinked from his profile.
