Biography

I was born in Kansas City Mo 11 September 1962; My Biological parents are James E.(Ed)Lane and Shirley A. Burns. I have never met nor seen a picture of my Father and know nothing of him other than my Mother said she left him when we were very small. I remember we moved around a lot. At Grandma Burns’s house in Goodman, Mo I Recall that I was trying to take a big plate of biscuits and gravy to my Grandpa, tripped and spilled it on my chest…still have the scars lol! On another occasion I recall setting off fireworks at their house on the 4th of July and I held onto one too long and it blew up in my hand, wich was closed around it ready to throw…that really hurt!! We lived at Lake of the Ozarks for a while after Mom Married Andy Crawford and i got stung by a whole nest of wasp…they were under an old pie tin that I moved as we were playing!! They flew in under my shirt and started stinging the crap out of me as I started running for the house yelling for Mom! A box of baking soda later I was laying in bed all swollen up…was sick for a couple days after that. I remember Andy used to go to the Lake and sit by the dam gates and wait for them to open then he would grab the big spoonbill fish out of the water while they were still stunned and smack them over the head and bring them home and we would all help get them ready to eat…it was a feast!! There was a time when we were starting school(1st grade and kindergarten I believe) and Andy told Bobby and I we had better not miss the school bus because it was a long way to school and if he had to leave work to take us to school we were going to get a good whipping. Well needless to say one day while waiting for the bus(The bus stop was at the end of our drive by a gas station in the middle of nowhere!) I had to go to the restroom REALLY bad so into the station I went and while sitting there doing my business the bus came and before I could get out there it took off!! Remembering what Andy said I took off running after it just as fast as I could run! I remember seeing all the kids in the back of the bus waiving and laughing but I was scared to death I ran and ran keeping sight of the bus for as long as I could then it vanished from sight. Not knowing for sure how to get to shool I kept following the highway carrying my books with me …eventually a man stopped and asked what had happened and I told him, he of course laughed till the tears ran down his face then said to me “ Hop on in, I’ll take you to school.” I of course was overjoyed, one I was going to make it to school and two Andy wouldn’t know and I wouldn’t get a whipping!! That evening at home Andy asked me how the day went, how was school and did everything go ok and without thinking I said that everything went swell today. Andy gave me that look, peering over his glasses and then told me that the man who picked me up this morning was his Boss and he knew who I was when he stopped …after taking me to school he had swung back around to the worksite and told Andy that he picked me up running down the highway chasing that bus just as fast as my little legs would go! Well I got the whipping…but I got it for being foolhardy enough to run after the bus along a major highway…and accepting a ride from a stranger...needless to say I didn’t miss that bus again!! There was also the time we were cleaning out the front section of overgrown ground so Andy could put in a garden for us and all of us were out there in this grass that was up to our waist picking up old trash and metal that was there when we moved in and we were almost done when I reached down and picked up an old washtub that was upside down as I picked it up there was the biggest copperhead snake I had EVER seen coiling up to strike!!!! The rest was a blur to me but Mom told me they heard a LOUD yell and all they saw was me running as fast as I could out of that garden spot, her and Andy both said I was going so fast they didn’t think my feet ever hit the ground for about a quarter mile!!!!! Later on Andy died in a car accident and I think it was the saddest day of my life up to then, He was good to us,firm but fair and the only Father figure we had really known. Mom was so grief stricken… Later on Mom eventually remarried a man named Joe Newman…I remember him well because he didn’t like Bobby and Calvin(Gearge now)and from what Mom told me later on he wanted to get rid of them and just keep Synthia and i….so at the age of 8 years old myself, My Brother Robert E. Lee (Bobby) Lane, my Sister Synthia Lane and my youngest Brother Calvin E. Crawford were placed in Foster care in the state of Missouri. My Brother Bobby went to a home for children with special needsBobby had a speech impediment they said, I understood him just fine!) and ended up spending a few years with a very nice family named the Dilts in Joplin.Mo. The rest of us were in a home together in the country for a year and then my youngest Brother and my sister were adopted out and I did not see them again until I was 21 and went searching for them. Bobby and I saw each other off and on for a few years and then he was moved around and I lost track of him. Eventually at 17 I was returned to my Mother and I got to know her a little before she died a couple of years later; My Brother Bobby had ran away from most of his Foster homes and always ended up at Our Grandmothers house in Goodman, Mo...So he was placed in a home in Anderson, Mo and got to see the family on a regular basis. I was married on April 15th 1983 in Fairview, Mo to Theresa A. Cline. she had a son age one at the time named Raymond M. Cline; a year later, shortly after my Mothers death we had a Daughter named Sabrina L. Lane born February 6th 1984. We moved around quite a bit from Fairview, Mo to Neosho, Mo, Joplin, Mo and on November 5th 1992 we had another Daughter named Natasha Marie Lane.

There will be future writngs to add, picking up where I leave off for now.

Hi Lester, Welcome back!!

I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! Also noticed you made 515 contributions to Wikitree, thank you! Here at WikiTree we like to have our members involved with others; collaboration is key!

Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors?

Why don't you stop by the One Name Studies project, to see if there's already a name study for (surname) going on? The current leaders for that are Doug Lockwood and Alison Andrus. They would be happy to get you started.

Again, thanks for volunteering to work on Pre-1700 profiles.

Dorothy, Volunteer Coordinator.

Hi Lester, I am still trying to learn how to use Wikitree, too. As far as I can tell, I am the last surviving member of the Lanes descended from John Merrifield Lane of Boston. Good luck. George

I will contribute as much as possible.

I am very new to Geneology research (about 4-6 weeks! I have been having a lot of fun with the initial finding of ancestors and I look forward to finding the details of their lives, at least as much as possible!
