Russian River Flag 27 Mar 1873 pg 2 col 5-Married Lane-Robinett At the residence of the Bride's father, in Siskiyou County, March 3, 1873, Wm.R. Lane of Sonoma to Miss Mary J. Robinett
It's believed that William died sometime between 1873-1875 since his wife remarried. [Married Morvan Dudley Murphy 04 Nov 1875 Linn Co, OR] It's also possible that they were divorced, however, William can not be found in subsequent census records. There is a missing headstone in the family plot in the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery. The grave could belong to William.
W.R. Lane age 22 b. MO is listed on the 1870 Solano Co. Census as a Mariner on board the ship U.S. St. Mary's. The Navy Yard in Solano was called Mare Island.
USS St. Mary's (1844)..... After the [Civil] War, she cruised the Pacific until September 1866, then put into Mare Island where she was laid up for four years. In the fall of 1870, she returned to active service; and, after a cruise to Australia and New Zealand, she returned to Mare Island, whence in November 1872 she departed for Norfolk.
