Caleb Lane Jr., the son of Caleb Lane and Lydia Riggs, was born May 23, 1759 in the Third Parish, at Annisquam village, Gloucester[1][2]

Like his father, Caleb Lane Jr. served during the Revolutionary War. He has been assigned a DAR Ancestor #: A068556[16] for service in coastal defense at Gloucester, Massachusetts as a private in the 3rd Company commanded by Captain William Pearson.[17] Caleb's pension application states he next served on the private armed brig "General Mercer" with Captain James Babson, a cruise of 8 months with many vessels captured, and ended up being taken by the British ship "Grampus". The captured "General Mercer" was brought to Portsmouth, England, and the crew confined as prisoners for 14 months, until they were exchanged.[18]
Caleb died at age 89 on 5 April 1850, in Gloucester, Massachusetts.[19]
