Biography

Edmund was born on 11 October 1909[1] at Tokomairiro, Otago, New Zealand. He was the son of Arthur Lane and Martha Ward[2].

In December 1930 he arrived in Alexandra with a colleague to take up duty at the local railway station for the coming fruit season[3].

He married Isobel Johann Soper on 30 September 1936[4] at Garston.
Edmund Lane is an Anzac who served in World War Two.

He served in World War II, Service number WWII 27924[5]. His next-of-kin on enlisting was his wife living at Edendale. His service was:

  • WW2 Sapper 2NZEF, being listed on the Nominal. Roll 3, p.263
  • 17th (N.Z.) Railway Operating Company, N.Z. Engineers 2NZEF, being listed on the Nominal Roll 3, p.263
  • Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, Third Echelon

He farmed at Cosy Dell. They retired to Invercargill.

Edmund died on 5 December 1983[6] at Invercargill, Southland. He was buried in Eastern Cemetery, Invercargill, 33 General, Plot 374[7]. The inscription reads:

And their daughter Isobel Johanna Lane Died 18.12.1983
And her husband Edmund James Lane Died 5.12.1983
