Gad Lane, son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Adams) Lane, was born on 31 Aug. 1744 in Suffield, Hartford County, Connecticut.[1][2]
He married Olive Tree on 25 Oct. 1772.[1] In 1797, he petitioned the Hartford Court for divorce from Olive on the grounds of adultery.[3]
Gad died on 27 Nov. 1833 at Suffield, Hartford County, Connecticut.[1][4][5]
In Samuel Alanson Lane's autobiography (Son of Comfort Lane, Grandson of Gad Lane), he talks in detail about his grandfather's life.[6] Gad was a skillful blacksmith during the revolutionary war, became an extensive farmer, and kept a country cavern.[6] He would give out personally crafted jack-knives to his grandchildren and was married three times in his life.[6] Gad attempted a fourth marriage, but an "untimely" interference from his children prevented it from happening.[6]
