"Doctor" was his name, not a title.
Great-grandfather of first lady Laura Bush (Laura Lane Welch).
"D.C. Lane" age 20 in 1850 Census, New Madrid County, Missouri:
W. R. LANE; age 48; male; Farmer; b. Tenn.;
Sarah LANE; age 46; female; b. Ga.;
S. G. LANE; age 26; male; b. Tenn.;
D. C. LANE; age 20; male; b. Tenn.;
Wm. C. LANE; age 16; male; b. Tenn.;
Thos. B. LANE; age 14; male; b. Tenn.;
Ann Jane LANE; age 12; female; b. Tenn.;
Elliot LANE; age 7; male; b. Tenn.;
Mary J. LANE; age 5; female; b. Tenn.;
Jos. HOLDESFIELD; age 6; male; b. Tenn.
D.C. LANE hasn't been located in the 1860 census. However, the following shows a "Simon Lane" the same age that D.C. Lane would have been in 1860, with what looks like the same wife (Emily) and same two children (Samuel and Doctor J./D.R) who later appear in D.C. Lane's household in 1870 -- except that Samuel and Doctor J./D.R. are listed with the surname LANE in 1860, but BOLING in 1870. But the birth locations and ages are the same. Also in the "Simon Lane" household in 1860 is Mary Lane, 17, who was probably D.C. Lane's sister as shown in the 1850 census. Question: was "Simon" the same person as Doctor Chapman Lane? Or was Simon perhaps a brother of Doctor? Another question: was Emily married first to a BOLING, then to LANE? (Why were two of her children listed with the surname BOLING in 1870)?
