Another Fatal R. R. Accident. — As Mr. Wm. T. Lane was shackling cars at the W. R. R. Depot, Tuesday afternoon, one of the cars not being in a position to yield so readily as was supposed, two came together in such a manner as to crush him so badly that he lived only half an hour afterwards. Mr. Lane was a member of the Allen Guard, and served with that corps during its first three months campaign, and afterwards with the 10th Regiment during its whole three years campaign, escaping all the dangers of this perilous service, to die in a peaceful, although hardly less dangerous avocation at home.
Note: The Allen Guard was a military Company raised from Pittsfield, Massachusetts that became part of the 8th Massachusetts Infantry.

I working on identifying the family members in the probate article here (https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Sheldon-5073)

My working theory is the “ John Lane 2d, Charles Lane,” mentioned are William’s sons. Can you shed light on any of the Lanes?
