MONROE, N.C. - Ruby Whitley Hunter, 85, died Friday, March 26, 2004.
Born Nov. 26, 1918, in Union County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Marshall Lonnie Laney and Tavie E. Strawn Laney. She was first married to the late Boyce Edward Whitley Sr. and then to Rubin H. Hunter. She was a Celanese Corp. retiree.
Survivors include her husband, Rubin H. Hunter, of the home; three sons, Boyce E. Whitley Jr., Mitchell D. Whitley and David D. Whitley, all of Monroe; four daughters, Shirley Cockrell and her husband, Jack, of Lancaster, Norma Williams and her husband, Roger, Mary Cunningham and her husband, Conley, and Kathy Uemura and her husband, Robert, all of Monroe; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Laney, Lonnie Laney and Henry Laney, all of Monroe; and two sisters, Christine L. Gaddy of Monroe and Margie L. Mahaffey of Fort Mill.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Whitley Pender; and a brother, Robert Franklin Laney.
