Biography

Lucile Vasconcellos Langhanke was born on May 3, 1906 in Quincy, Illinois. Her parents were Otto Ludwig Langhanke (from Berlin) and Helen Marie de Vasconcellos (from Jacksonville, Illinois). Both parents were teachers.

She changed her stage name to Mary Astor, and was married 4 times. First to Kenneth Hawks (1928 - 1930), then to Franklin Thorpe (1931 - 1935), and then to Manuel del Campo (1936 - 1941), and finally to Thomas Gordon Wheelock (1945 – 1955).

Mary passed away on September 25, 1987 in Woodland Hills, California. She was 81 years old. She was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, in Culver City, California.
