Biography
Batty Langley was born in Uppingham, Rutland, on 20 March 1834, and baptised there on 5 April of the same year, he was the son of Thomas and Jemima. [1]
Batty moved to Sheffield, and he traded as a timber merchant, establishing The Sheaf Saw Mills. In 1892, he was elected Mayor of Sheffield, and as a member of the Liberal Party, represented Sheffield Attercliffe from 1894 until 1909.
He married Sarah Ellen Castle in 1857, in Sheffield [2] [3]
His second wife was Helen Black, they were married in Ulverston district in 1874 [4] [5]
Batty passed away in Bournemouth on 19 February 1914, aged 79. [6]
