Isidore Langlois dit Traversy est né le 20 août 1826 et a été baptisé le 21 août 1826 à St-Eugène, St-Eustache, co. Deux-Montagnes, QC. Il était le fils de Toussaint Langlois dit Traversy et de Hippolyte Proulx.

Il a épousé Agnès McArthur le 26 novembre 1853 à la Basilique Notre-Dame, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Biography

Isidore Langlois dit Traversy was born 20 August 1826 & baptized on August 21st 1826 in St-Eugène, St-Eustache, co. Deux-Montagnes, QC. [1]. He was the son of Toussaint Langlois and Hypolite Proulx.

Marriage

Isidore married Agnes (McArthur) Traversy on November 26th 1853 in the Notre-Dame Basilica in Ottawa. [2]

Isidore moved from Quebec to Ottawa (then known as Bytown) in the early 1850's. It was during this time that he adopted 'Traversy' as his surname. Isidore was a successful merchant and actively involved in the Municipal Government of Ottawa City as an Alderman for over a decade. He later served as a Justice of the Peace. Isidore was President of the St. Jean Baptiste Society in 1867. He served as President of the Institut Canadien-Francais d'Ottawa for the 1867-68 term.

Isidore and Agnès had seven children in 14 years. [3]

Death

Isidore passed away in 1876 at the age of 50. He is buried with his family in their family plot in Notre Dame Cemetery in Ottawa. The inscription reads 'ISIDORE W. TRAVERSY DÉCÉDÉ LE 6 NOV. 1876 AGE DE 50 ANS ASGAGNE R. TRAVERSY DIED MARCH 1ST 1890 AGED 33 YRS. & 3 MOS. HIS DAUGHTER ALICE AGED 4 YEARS."
