Biography

George Langstaff IV; 1794-97 of Cockfield [Durham OS NZ 125243], later of Butterknowle [Durham OS NZ 105260], and after of Shildon, coalowner, d. 21 Sep 1837 aged 70 bur. at Shildon. Memorial Inscription. Mentioned in will of George Langstaff III

George Langstaff IV 1766-1837 George was born in Butterknowle on 20 Nov 1766 & baptised at Hamsterley on 29 Dec the son of George Langstaff III & Isabel Gibbon. He marries Elizabeth Dixon at St Helen Auckland on 17 Apr 1767 by licence. In 1794-1797 of Cockfield he was a coal owner & a 1832 Poll book shows him owning a copyhold property Greenhead in North Bedburn. He is mentioned in his father’s will. He is buried at Shildon. His memorial inscription states he died on 21 Sep 1837 aged 70.
