Son of William James M. Langston (1854-1935) and Nancy Elizabeth Finley (1855-1911), LaRue was born in Ward 5 of Greenville, South Carolina in 1888.[1] He came from a large family:

His father was a minister, and took in boarders to make ends meet. By 1910, he father had been transferred to a church in Conway, South Carolina.[2]
LaRue also became a minister, and took a position with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission in Conway, South Carolina, and claimed exemption from the draft. His draft card described him as a tall man of medium build, with blue eyes and black hair, with a wife and two children.[3] LaRue had married Marjorie G. Quattlebaum He died at the age of 39 and is buried at Lakeside Cemetery in Conway.[4]
