Carroll Napier Langston was born in 1881 in St Louis, Missouri, the son of Ida M Napier and Arthur Dessalines Langston.
In the 1900 census, he was 18 years old and living with his parents and older brother John in St Louis, Missouri. He was attending college.[1]
In 1903, he graduated from Oberlin College. Carroll and his brother John were the third generation from the same family to have graduated from Oberlin.[2][3]
He married Vivian Cashin on 31 July 1906 in Morgan County, Alabama.[4]
In 1918 he registered for the World War I draft. He was 37 years old and working as an assistant cashier at the One Cent Savings Bank in Nashville. He was described as medium height, medium build, with brown eyes and hair.[5]
In the 1930 census, Carroll and Vivian were living in Chicago, Illinois, with their son Carroll Jr and Vivian's brother James B Cashin. Carroll was working as a bank vice president. James was working as a junior partner in a law firm.[6]
In the 1940 census, he and Vivian were living in Chicago. He was working as a lawyer.[7]
In 1942, Carroll registered for the World War II draft.[8] His son served as a Tuskegee airman and was killed in action in Italy in 1944.
In the 1950 census, Carroll and Vivian were living in Chicago. He was working as a lawyer.[9]
Carroll Napier Langston passed away in 1972 in Huntsville, Alabama. He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.
