Dorothy was born August 19, 1910. She was the eldest child of Philip Langworthy and Dorothy Huntington. She passed away in 2000. [1]
At the age of ten years, Dorothy moved, with her family, to the Young District of NSW. She later taught school, from kindergarten to high school classes, for nearly fifty years. She travelled extensively in outback Australia, the Near East, and Europe.
Dorothy was also a prolific writer, (authoring 29 works), principally of ghost stories, but also of several biographical and historical novels, under the pen-name of Dorothy Michell.
In 1988, Dorothy wrote the novel: " Gommie - the Girl Who Married the Butler: A Novella of 19th Century Australia 1858 - 1893 ", [2] which was loosely based on the life of her great grandmother, Ellen (Lay) Spooner, and covering Ellen's elopement and her early years in Australia.
A sequel to "Gommie ...", titled "Connexions of a Lady," [3]was published in 1991.
Dorothy also wrote an autobiographical novel, "Slave By Marriage". in 1989.[4]
During her lifetime, Dorothy used the names: Dorothy Ellen Michell; Dorothy Ellen Svenson; D. Michell; and Dorothy Svenson, nee Langworthy.
