Southside Virginia Families Vol. 1 by John Bennett Bodie p.282-283 ". . . .William Hill, son of Margaret (Jennings) and Isaac Hill, patiented 721 acres in Brunswick, Jan 30, 1741, which fell in Lunenburg when it was formed in 1746. He lived on this land with his first wife Catherine. He was one of the first Magistrates of Lunenburg County. He moved to Carteret County, N.C. where he was residing when he divided the above tract of the land between his sons John and Major, 291 and 430 acres respectively. (Mecklenburg deed 2-146) He made is his will in Brunswick Sept. 8, 1791, and died Aug 1799. (See Chancery suit under Lanier) His children by first wife, Catherine Major (?) were: Elizabeth, Major, John, Isaac and Thomas, born before 1758. He married secondly, Oct. 24, 1758 (date of marriage bond) Priscilla, widow of of Henry Embry, Jr. Their Hill children were: Jospeh and Priscilla. The third wife he married September 27, 1790, was Sarah Lainer. Elizabeth Hill, his first named child by first wife, married Burwell Lainer of Brunswick County, Virginia, son of Sampson Lainer (died 1758) and Elizabeth Chamberlayne.
