Biography

John Lanier (Lemuel6, John5, John4, John3, Clement2, Nicholas1) was born Bef. October 28, 1738 in Albemarle Parish, Surry County, Virginia, and died Abt. 1809 in Bulloch County,Georgia. He married Sarah Mills. She died 1803.

Notes for John Lanier: John Lanier lived first in Burke County, one of the original counties, then Bryan County, and lastly Bulloch County, without moving. When Bulloch County was formed in February 1796, the boundary lines read "to begin at John Lanier's, including the same on the Ogeechee River, and thence a direct line to be drawn to where Lotts Creek emties (sic) into the Canouchee River, then up the Canouchee River, to the Montgomery line, thence along the said line to the Ogeechee River, and down the said River to the beginning, which county will be called Bulloch". John Lanier operated a ferry across the Ogeechee River at this point, where the dividing line between Bryan and Bulloch ran into the river.

She married David Williams December 21, 1799 in Bulloch County,Georgia; born 1776 in North Carolina; died December 11, 1862 in Florida. + 298 ii. John Lanier, born 1778 in Burke County,Georgia; died 1844 in Sumter County, Alabama. 299 iii. Elizabeth Lanier, born Abt. 1783. + 300 iv. Sarah Lanier, born Abt. 1785. married MILLS, Shadrack on 18 Mar 1806 in Bulloch County, Georgia 301 v. Lemuel Lanier, born Abt. 1799.
