Braxton acquired 35 acres on the North Pacolet River in present-day Polk County in 1827, 50 acres in 1835, 98 acres in 1855 and 23 acres in 1860.

He sold another 73 acres for a nominal amount to his son-in-law, Richard N. JOHNSON before 1870, later repurchasing it. His estate held the 50 and 98 acre tracts at his death.

The Joseph in his household at the 1870 census was not his child.

He and his brother, Nathan, served in the War of 1812.

Several references to him have Dr. before his name. Trying to find out about this.

They had 11 children, born near Columbus after Polk County was formed from Rutherford and Henderson counties.

One of his sons, Braxton Caldwell Lankford, is one of the founders of Transylvania County. He was a merchant, postmaster and mayor of Brevard, chairman of the board of commissioners, register of deeds, clerk of court and justice of the peace.
