Note: Anna was the first of three siblings to travel to Minnesota. She came to this country as a single woman, 27 years old on the boat Oscar II. Her occupation is listed as Seamstress. This is according to Digitalarkivet record of Emigrants sailing from Kristiana 1871-1921-record number 169138-1906, page 42, serial no. 1
Note from Karin Mohn
Anna went to Copenhagen, Denmark, to visit her aunt, her mother's sister, we don't know her name. Anna stayed in Copenhagen for about 7 years, and she was trained as a seamstress, a really clever one, it was said. She returned to Norway, where she met Olaf Andersson, a Swede, whom she married and the went to America. The rest I think you know, she died in America after having given birth to a son, who also died some months later. Tragic. This information was given to me from Laila Simensen, my second cousin, daughter of Ellinor, daughter of Lydia, Klara's sister.

Last Name AT BIRTH (LNAB)
The Patronym as LNAB is the default rule for most Norwegians born before the legal requirements for surnames. [1923, but in practice somewhat earler in cities]
This is a difficult family with respect to LNAB. The children were certainly not called Lane/Lanne AT BIRTH.
The question is should the children be called Hansen/Hansdatter or all Olsen?
They lived in/near cities Fredrikstad and Sarpsborg, and family could have chosen Olsen as family name already before census 1891. But daughters are called Olsdatter, which is totally meaningless. Either they should be Hansdatter OR the whole family should be Olsen.
Since the ending -datter was still used for the daughters, it is obvious that they had not all taken Olsen as family name, and the best solution must be to call the sons Hansen and the daughters Hansdatter in line with default: "The Patronym as LNAB is the default rule for most Norwegians born before the legal requirements for surnames."
