Irvin Charles Lantz was born on February 16,1898 in Urbana, Champaign County, Ohio, United States.

He marries first to Agnes Teresa Beach on October 4, 1919 in Clark, Ohio. Agnes is the daughter of John Beach and Bertha Decker. Agnes and Irvin divorce on December 21, 1950. They had no children.

He marries second to Maria (Fink) McConnehea on February 24, 1951 in Urbana. She was born on January 1, 1897 in Austria, the daughter of John Fink and Maria Slack. Maria had previously been married twice before, both marriages ending due to her husband's deaths, on August 15, 1927 and the other on April 8, 1950. At the time of their marriage Maria was a "Armature Winder".
