Jeanne Lanvin was born in Paris on 1 January 1867. Her parents were Bernard Constant Lanvin and Sophie Blanches Deshayes. They were both still living in Colombes (Seine) in 1896.
Jeanne Lanvin married Count Emile George’s Henri Di Pietro on 20 February 1896 in Paris (8th). Their daughter Marguerite was born the following year.
Jeanne divorced in 1903. In 1907 she married Xavier Mélet, a journalist.
Jeanne was the eldest of 11 children who, at 16, became apprenticed to Madame Felis as a milliner. In 1889 she became a milliner with a shop on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore. The clothing she made her daughter caught the attention of the elite in Paris and soon she was designing and making clothing for them and their children. In 1909 she joined Syndicat de la Couture which marked her formal status as a couturière. Jeanne Lanvin founded the Lanvin fashion house, one of the oldest fashion houses. She also founded the beauty and perfume company in 1924 where her signature perfume was Arpège.
Jeanne Lanvin passed away on 6 July 1946 in Paris.
