Mary Larkin was born in about 1831 in Whittle-le-Woods. She was the youngest child of Lachlann Larkin and Catherine (Bennet) Larkin, who were Irish and Catholic.
By June 6th 1841, the family were living in Bold Street, Eccleston. Mary's father Lachlann ("Lackey") was employed as a labourer. The household consisted of his parents and six children - Ann (20-24), Thomas (18), John (16), Alice (12), Rowland (9) and Mary (4). Thomas was employed as a glass grinder, and John as an apprentice glass polisher.
By March 30th 1851, they were living at 10 John Street, Green Bank, Eccleston. Only two of the children, Rowland and Mary, were still with their parents. Lachlann and Rowland were both employed as labourers. Mary was a glass smoother. The family had two Irish visitors - Ellen Carney (21) and Michael Carney (19).
Mary married William Bostock on 1 Jan 1853 at Christ Church, Eccleston (Anglican). William was 23 and a shoe maker; Mary was 21. Neither had been married before, and both were resident in Eccleston. Their fathers were named as Thomas Bostock (labourer) and John Larkin (labourer). The witnesses were Henry Daniels and Alice Daniels, Mary's sister and brother-in-law.
Their daughter Mary was born in about 1853 in St Helens.
Their daughter Elizabeth was born in about 1855 in St Helens.
Their son Thomas was born on 14 Feb 1857 in St Helens.
Their son William was born on 3 Aug 1859 in St Helens.
Their daughter Catherine was born in about January 1861 in Liverpool.
By April 7th 1861, they were living at 4 Melbourne Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. William was working as a shoe maker.
Little Catherine died in 1863, aged 2; her death was registered in the last quarter of 1863, in West Derby and Toxteth Park district.
William and Mary's son William was born in about 1867 in St Helens.
Their son Matthew was born in about 1868 in Liverpool.
By April 2nd 1871, Mary junior and Elizabeth were no longer with their parents. William was working as a shoemaker still, and Thomas, now 14, was still in school.
Their son John was born in about 1871 in Liverpool.
Their daughter Ann was born in about 1876 in Liverpool.
By April 3rd 1881, they were in Star Street, Toxteth Park. William was still making shoes.
Mary died in 1884; her death was registered in the third quarter of the year, in Toxteth Park district, and her age was given as 50 but she was about 53.
