James William Larner, who was always known as Jim, was born on June 27, 1919, at 47, Lincoln Street, Norwich, Norfolk, England.[1] He was the only son of William Larner and Amy Porter. Jim had three older sisters and one younger sister. [2]

As a young child he hated school. He kept white mice in the shed and learnt to play the violin, he occasionally played as an adult.
In World War II Jim was in the army and was reported as missing but was in fact being held at a prisoner of war camp in Germany. He was forced to do heavy work and his back was damaged as a result of it, but he became a very skilled carpenter having served a seven year apprenticeship, He worked as a carpenter at Curls store (later Debenhams) in Norwich.
Jim married Doris Alice Reynolds at Roughton, Norfolk on February 16, 1946.[3]

They had one son and thee grand-children. Jim was interested in recording on the tape to tape reels and was very good at it. Later he used casettes. Jim had a motor bike and built a sturdy side-car mostly from wood. He had a natural feel for religion though he spent some time searching for a church in which he would feel at home.
Jim died of pancreatic cancer In Priscilla Bacon Lodge, Norwich on September 25, 1997, when he was 78 years old.[4] He was cremated and his ashes interred in Earlham Cemetery, Norwich.
